Welcome to the palace of lights!
Hopefully, this will be the forum where we can discuss our favourite films and directors and talk about the course as it proceeds. I will also be posting updates for you on tasks and presentations and reminders of what needs to be done for the next class.
The pictures above are of three of my favourite cinemas. I wonder if you recognise any of them.
Do you have a favourite cinema which means something special to you?

I am from Szolnok and there is an art cinema called Tisza mozi as it is near the bank of River Tisza. I really like it because it is not so big but very comfortable and its atmosphere is very friendly. Sometimes there are cocerts as well and you can see pictures and other pieces of art exhibited there all the time.

ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for that Liwi. I've always thought that cinemas are special, even magical, places and that it makes a big difference to the experience of watching a movie if you're watching it in YOUR cinema. Multiplexes are just not the same (in fact, multiplexes are all exactly the same - that's the problem ;-/
ReplyDeleteCould you maybe find a picture of the Tisza mozi online and put it up for us to see?
Well, personally I don't have any problem with Multiplexes:) My favourite one is part of the "Palace Cinemas" chain; it's Kossuth Cinema. I like it because it's quite small and you can smoke in the hall next to the buffet :D
ReplyDeleteMűvész Cinema has a pretty good atmosphere as well but unfortunately they don't really play the kind of films I like.
But Cintia Kossuth is not a multiplex - it show's art films as well as blockbusters and before Palace took it over it was an independent cinema. That's why it still has some character.
ReplyDeleteI like Művész too and they have loads of different films so I'm sure they must show some films that you like.
We should all support independent cinemas whenever we can otherwise we'll be left with nothing but disgusting corporate multiplexes which only show overrated Hollywood blockbusters and have nothing special about them (and they're too loud and show way too many adverts).
Of course, that's just my opinion :)

my favourite cinema is Uránia. i like the ornamental design on the walls and the whole place itself. it has also hosted many film festivals and the atmosphere in the Café is always very nice :)
ReplyDeletei also like multiplex cinemas because of the sound effects, but sometimes sitting at home and watching a film from dvd with people you like is better than any sound effect or huge canvas :)
oh and in my hometown, miskolc there is a little art cinema, called Kossuth Art Cinema. the building used to be a hotel and it was built around the 1900s.

I don't think I have a favorite cinema, but I like Palace MOM because they have the highest number of movies in the original language and the smaller arts cinemas because of their more private feel. I hate it when all I hear in a cinema is a couple of school-skipping brats wondering who can chew popcorn the loudest or laughing and commenting during the whole of the film.
