HAVE YOU ACTUALLY SEEN A KERESZTAPA? (And what films would you lie about having seen?)

Hi there!

Here's a quite amusing article about a recent survey which asked people to name the films they claim to have seen but never have actually: Have you actually seen the Godfather? What does this survey tell us about the present generation of British filmgoers, and do you think Hungarian filmgoers are more familiar with Hollywood classics? What films would you lie about having seen, and what films would you never admit to having seen even though you have seen them and secretly enjoyed the experience? Mama Mia! anyone?

  1. Actually, I've seen THE GODFATHER and I'm proud of it too. I can't really think of any film that I'd lie about having seen---I don't get what the point is in doing so. Or do i?... Well, I sometimes get the feeling that this or that film I'd really ought to have seen and that I haven't makes me a bit ashamed inside. But that doesn't make me lie about having seen it---I'd rather go borrow it from a video library.

As regards films that some people think they should lie about actually having seen, my opinion is that if you've seen a film that you liked, why shouldn't you admit it? I mean, what's the point in being ashamed about having had an experience that others might refuse themselves? I think the main reason behind this kind of blush is conventional attitudes that often seem to constrain people's own taste of things. I say, let's get rid of these stereotypical commonplaces like "girls should cry watching TITANIC and boys should be suffer" etc.

    What do you think?
